Harper News Collection

The collection consists of standard format press releases issued by the Department of Publications and Communications to promote Harper College. The department was previously known as Institutional Communications (through 1980), and then College Relations (1980-1990). A small number of press releases are available for the years 1973, 1975, 1976, 1979, 2000, and 2001. There are significant gaps in the collection, but it is mostly comprehensive for the years 1981 through the academic year 1991-92. Distributed to local papers, the press releases are promotional in nature and pertain to Harper College programs and public events. Other subjects include notable accomplishments of Harper students and faculty, updates on Harper’s growth and development, and administrator news. Title indexes were created by the issuing department and cover most of the collection. Researchers should note that press releases relating to sports were issued by a separate department and are not included in the collection.
